Isle of Canna

VolkerGround Engineering carried out the installation of a sheet piled cofferdam and retaining wall for the construction of R.J McLeod's new ferry landing on the Isle of Canna.

Due to the remote location of the site all plant and materials had to be transported via barge to the island. The piles were installed using our ABI leader rig and where this could not reach we used a 50T crane fitted with a ICE 223 vibrohammer. Although the works were of temporary design, it was recommended that the piles be sacrificed and left in place due to the costs involved with remobilising to the island for extraction.
