MPACT - Manchester Metro Link

Throughout 2010 and 2011 VolkerGround Engineering was employed by MPACT, a JV between Laing O' Rourke and VolkerRail to provide a variety of geotechnical solutions to the Manchester Metrolink extension project.

Individual works value varied for steel sheet pile retaining walls, restricted headroom piling within existing structures such as the Dean Lane Bridge, and foundations for overhead gantries from rail mounted plant. In addition to this, soil nailing was provided to the re-graded embankment adjacent to the Baguley Rd over bridge.

The project provided a good opportunity for VolkerGround Engineering to demonstrate its value to clients having to contend with a variety of ground engineering issues within a restricted urban environment, which at times ran adjacent to existing rail assets.
