The JV was appointed by The East Midlands Development Agency to develop a remediation strategy and to complete the clean up operation to transform the former Avenue Coking Works Site near Chesterfield in Derbyshire. The 98 ha site has been recognised as one of Europe's most contaminated sites.

VolkerGround Engineering installed a 400 linm retaining wall at one end of the scheme comprising 7m and 8m length sheet piles in order to provide support to the earthworks operation.

The final scheme will incorporate public open space, amenities, an nature reserve, and opportunities for new roads and housing infrastructure.
