VolkerGround Engineering completes sheet piled retaining wall contract in Durham

Recent

Specialist contractor VolkerGround Engineering has completed a design and build retaining wall contract to a residential development at Kepier Court in Durham.

The scope of work included a 17m length of steel sheet pile retaining wall using AZ12-770 sheet piles, 8m in length, which were driven into stiff clay.

Director for VolkerGround Engineering, Chris Thomas, said: “We were brought in to build a retaining wall that would enable the existing slope to be excavated for the construction of a new residential development.

“The site was previously occupied by the University of Durham and dated back to the 1960s as an accommodation block for students. It was a really great job to work on and will be a fantastic development for the local area.

“It was also our first project working for Robertson Construction which is a significant regional building contractor in the North East and we hope to develop this relationship further in the future off the back of this succesfull project.”
