VolkerGround Engineering moves into Concrete Bored Piling

Recent

VolkerGround Engineering has successfully completed its first concrete bored piling contract, at Thameslink’s Hornsey maintenance rail depot.

VolkerGround Engineering was appointed to complete concrete bored piling works by sister company VolkerFitzpatrick, after working closely with its project management team to develop a solution for bearing piles on the structure.

The team completed 290, 600mm and 450mm bored piles to a maximum 20m depth. This was a challenging project as the piling team were required to work within an active rail environment and adjacent to an existing maintenance facility, clad with asbestos sheeting. In addition, site access was also restricted for concrete deliveries, meaning the team had to ensure minimal disruption to the facility and that existing emergency walkways were maintained at all times. A close working relationship with VolkerFitzpatrick ensured all challenges were met and work was completed successfully and to the agreed programme schedule.

VolkerFitzpatrick project manager, Rob Howarth said: “This was the first time we have worked on a project of this kind with VolkerFitzpatrick and we are delighted with the results they have achieved and the quality of their works throughout the project.”
