Greenwich Peninsula Plot 19.05

London

VolkerGround Engineering was awarded a contract to support VolkerFitzpatrick’s enabling works on the Greenwhich Peninsula Plot 19.05 project. The VolkerGround Engineering team designed and constructed a package for a temporary sheet pile wall.

This wall was required to enable a reduced level bulk dig to clear contaminated material immediately adjacent to newly constructed, high quality, residential dwellings.

VolkerGround Engineering’s sheet pile wall comprised of 439no. AZ18-700 piles ranging in length from 7.4m to 12.5m.
The Greenwich Peninsula Plot was previously used for manufacturing domestic gas, and, as a result the ground is contaminated.

The presence of existing services running through the site together with the level of contamination present during subsequent excavation works meant that pile installation had to proceed with care and in a strictly controlled environment.

Obstructions were identified and removed by the main contractor ahead of the pile installation. This ensured that the works were completed on schedule.

The works were completed over the course of two weeks in January 2017.
