Montrose

VolkerGround Engineering was employed by main contractor - Farrans Construction Ltd to complete new piling works within a working port environment on the Montrose Quayside development scheme.

The piling sub contract consisted of the installation of a new combi-wall comprising 33m long tubular piles and 24m long infill sheet piles The initial value of the works was in the region of £500,000.

Once on site the scope of works increased considerably and was amended to include the installation of a temporary line of sheet piles to enable the main wall installation, which was extracted once the main wall had been installed.

During the works VolkerGround Engineering encountered a line of uncharted steel bearing piles that had to be extracted to enable the main pile wall installation to progress.

Extraction of the bulk of the existing quay wall that ran adjacent to the line of the new quay wall piles was further instructed during the course of the sub contract.
