Sandyford Road, Newcastle

In January 2008 VolkerGround Engineering carried out the installation of steel sheet piles to form the retaining walls to the new access road to Newcastle University.

The piles were installed using our ABI 14/17 resonance free leader rig and then impact driven to the final level using a 2.4t hydraulic impact hammer. In the temporary state, the retained height was in excess of 5.0m

As the works were carried out in close proximity to the lecture halls, numerous visits were required to complete the works as to not disrupt the students during their exams.
