Stratford S9

Stratford

In 2017, as part of a larger contract between VolkerFitzpatrick and LendLease, VolkerGround Engineering completed Continuous Flight Auger (CFA) piling works for the Stratford IQL plot S9.

The works involved 750mm and 900mm diameter CFA piles installed from a single-level platform. The team undertook pile testing to 6000kN on a 750mm diameter pile, with 4.3mm settlement at maximum load.

VolkerGround Engineering completed this project using a Soilmec SF120 piling rig, and a 50 tonne Weldex telescopic crawler crane.

Working adjacent to the railway line, VolkerGround Engineering applied slew restrictions to the crane to restrict the collapse radius. The team worked closely with Network Rail, who were on site to monitor the slewing of the crane, handing of cages and movements of the piling rig, ensuring no parameters were breached.

VolkerGround Engineering worked closely with the designers Arup and the developer LendLease to develop innovative solutions to complex project issues, providing a quality end-to-end service. Work was completed  eight days ahead of schedule.

Commenting on our work, package manager at LendLease said: “The VolkerGround Engineering site staff were conscientious and flexible; all technical aspects were resolved quickly and to the satisfaction of our structural engineer (Arup). VolkerGround Engineering completed their work ahead of programme. We are very pleased with their performance.”
