VolkerGround Engineering completes works on the Sainsbury's Scarborough Store Extension

Recent

VolkerGround Engineering has completed a £200k +  contract with Barr Construction to design and construct a 390m long steel sheet pile retaining wall. The contract forms part of the Sainsbury's Scarborough Store Extension project in which Barr construction is building an extension to the existing store in Scarborough for client, Sainsbury's.

The sheet pile retaining wall took a total of six weeks to complete and provides ground support for an additional car parking area and access roads required to service the newly enlarged store.

Due to the sensitive residential environment adjacent to the works the piling was installed using a combination of high resonance vibratory and hydraulic pressing techniques operated on one of VolkerGround Engineering's ABI Leader Rigs.

Chris Thomas, director at VolkerGround Engineering, said: "Working with Barr Construction and for a major supermarket retailer is a first for VolkerGround Engineering. We are pleased to have been able to support the works taking place in close proximity to residential areas, using processes for installing steel driven sheet piles that caused minimal noise and vibration."
