Steel Sheet piling

Typically steel sheet piles are installed as temporary or permanent retaining structures within both marine and land based environments to suit most ground conditions.

VolkerGround Engineering have over the last 50 years provided a range of geotechnical solutions using steel sheet piles.

Historically VGE focused on harbour walls, water retention, flood defence with a range of temporary works applications including cofferdams; more recently expanded our offering into the commercial, residential and highways sectors

Driving sheet piles in a confined urban and environmentally sensitive construction sites can be problematic.  VGE offer a range of installation techniques to cover all eventualities and ground conditions:

  • our fleet of ABI hydraulic leader rigs operate the latest ultra-high frequency vibro hammers which minimise the damaging low frequency vibrations from traditional installation methods
  • Silent piling or the ‘press-in’ technique are adopted within environmentally sensitive sites, adjacent to existing structures and areas with difficult access like embankments
  • high frequency vibratory Movax hammers mounted on long reach excavators to suit confined working and challenging access conditions for the installation of sheet piles

Key capabilities

  • Rig weight: 12 -68 tonnes
  • Pile Type: Z & U piles, tubular piles and H Beams
  • Maximum depth: 10m with Movax
  • Maximum depth: 21m with leader rigs
  • Maximum depth:  35m (ground dependant) with the piling press
  • Driving assistance: impact driving, waterjetting and pre-drilling/pre-augering,
