In January 2011 VolkerStevin was awarded the Colwyn Bay Coastal Defence Project by Client Colwyn Bay Borough Council. VolkerGround Engineering's sub-contract was for the removal of existing and installation of new sheet piles to form the re developed coastal outline adjacent to the town.
In addition to the steel sheet piles VolkerGround Engineering designed and constructed 264 420mm diameter cased continuous flight auger bearing piles to form the foundations for the proposed waterfront sports and leisure complex.
Through utilisation of its modern versatile plant fleet VolkerGround Engineering was able to complete both driven steel and concrete cast in situ bored piles in difficult ground conditions saving both valuable programme time and project cost to the main contractor.
